Understanding Booking Duration vs Labor Time vs Team Size

Written by Kritika Gupta

In MioCommerce Dispatcher, three things work together to accurately dispatch a booking:

  • Booking Duration → Total time blocked on the calendar

  • Labor Time → Total amount of work required

  • Team Size → Number of service providers assigned

The system uses this formula:

Booking Duration = Labor Time ÷ Team Size

How Mio AI Assistant Helps

When the above numbers do not match correctly, Mio AI Assistant will flag the booking and suggest a correction.

  • Highlight the booking in red

  • Display the mismatch details

  • Suggest the correct booking duration

  • Prevent dispatching mistakes

Below are some common scenarios where booking duration, labor time, and team size may not align correctly. When this happens, Mio AI Assistant will automatically detect the mismatch, highlight the booking, and suggest the appropriate correction before dispatching proceeds.

Scenario 1 - Booking Duration Too Long

Booking Setup

  • Booking Duration = 3 hours

  • Labor Time = 1 hour

  • Team Size = 2

What This Means

Two service providers are assigned to complete only 1 hour of labor.

So the actual required booking duration should be:

1 hour ÷ 2 team members = 30 minutes

Why This Is a Problem

The calendar is blocking 3 hours even though the work only requires 30 minutes with a 2-person team.

This can:

  • Reduce availability

  • Create scheduling inefficiencies

  • Prevent additional bookings

Recommended Action

  • Reduce the booking duration

  • OR increase the labor time if entered incorrectly

Scenario 2 — Not Enough Time Scheduled

Booking Setup

  • Booking Duration = 2 hours

  • Labor Time = 6 hours

  • Team Size = 2

What This Means

Two service providers are expected to complete 6 hours of work.

Required booking duration:

6 hours ÷ 2 team members = 3 hours

Why This Is a Problem

The team only has 2 scheduled hours but needs 3 hours to complete the work.

This may:

  • Cause delays

  • Create overtime

  • Impact the next bookings

Recommended Action

  • Increase booking duration to 3 hours

  • OR assign more service providers

Scenario 3 — Team Size Missing

Booking Setup

  • Booking Duration = 4 hours

  • Labor Time = 4 hours

  • Team Size = None Assigned

What This Means

The booking has work defined, but no service provider is assigned.

Why This Is a Problem

Dispatcher cannot calculate actual scheduling requirements without knowing the team size.

Recommended Action

  • Assign one or more service providers before dispatching

Scenario 4 — Too Many Team Members Assigned

Booking Setup

  • Booking Duration = 1 hour

  • Labor Time = 2 hours

  • Team Size = 4

What This Means

Four service providers are assigned for only 2 hours of labor.

Required duration:

2 hours ÷ 4 team members = 30 minutes

Why This Is a Problem

Too many resources are allocated for the amount of work required.

This can:

  • Waste team availability

  • Reduce operational efficiency

  • Increase labor costs unnecessarily

Recommended Action

  • Reduce the team size

  • OR reduce the booking duration

Quick Rule

Formula Used by MioCommerce

Booking Duration = Labor Time /Team Size

If the numbers do not align, Mio AI Assistant will alert the dispatcher before scheduling proceeds.
