Setting up payment methods correctly in your Stripe account ensures that your customers have a smooth and secure checkout experience. Whether you’re using Stripe directly, through our MioCommerce integration or via the Stripe Dashboard, proper configuration is key to preventing failed payments and maintaining compliance with your business model.

This guide walks you through how to configure your payment methods — including how to disable Stripe Link, a one-click checkout option that may not fit all business use cases.

1. Understanding Stripe Payment Methods

Stripe supports a wide range of payment methods depending on your region and business type. Common examples include:

  • Credit/Debit Cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc.)

  • Bank debits (ACH, SEPA, etc.) (not yet supported by MioCommerce)

  • Buy now, pay later options (Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm) (not yet supported by MioCommerce)

  • Wallets and local payment methods (e.g., Alipay, iDEAL, Bancontact)

You can enable or disable each of these methods individually from your Stripe Dashboard. It’s best to only enable methods that are supported in your customers’ regions and align with your operational and refund policies.

2. Accessing Your Payment Method Settings

To review and configure payment methods:

  1. Log in to your Stripe Dashboard
    Visit https://dashboard.stripe.com.

  2. Go to Settings → Payment methods
    You can also navigate directly:
    https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/payment_methods

  3. Select your desired payment method configuration
Here, you’ll see all available payment methods grouped by category (cards, wallets, bank debits, etc.).
    Each method will show:

    • Status (Enabled or Disabled)

    • Regions where it’s supported

    • Optional settings or connected accounts

3. Enabling and Disabling Payment Methods

To enable a method:

  • Click Turn on next to the payment method you want to offer.

  • Review the configuration requirements (some may need extra verification or setup steps).

To disable a method:

  • Click ManageTurn off for the payment method you wish to remove.

  • Confirm your choice when prompted.

Best Practices

  • Test every payment method before going live, look at your MioCommerce Booking page to verify the Stripe Payment methods are the ones you want

  • Limit methods to those you actively support — too many options can confuse customers.

4. How to Disable Stripe Link (Link by Stripe)

Stripe Link is a one-click checkout feature that allows customers to save and reuse their payment information across Stripe-powered websites. While convenient, some businesses prefer to disable it to maintain full control over the checkout UX or to avoid potential confusion with stored customer data.

To disable Link:

  1. Go to your Stripe Dashboard → Settings → Payment Methods

  2. Find Link under “Wallets” or search for “Link” in the settings page.

  3. Click Manage, then Turn off.

  4. Confirm you want to disable Link support for your account.

This ensures Link won’t appear as an available option on your MioCommerce Booking page.

Summary

Proper payment method configuration ensures a seamless experience for your customers and reduces payment issues.
Key takeaways:

  • Only enable the methods your business supports.

  • Test your setup by verifying your MioCommerce booking page.

  • Disable Stripe Link if you prefer a more controlled or branded checkout experience.

  • Monitor performance and adjust settings as your business evolves.
