This article explains how to manage customer card payment methods when using Stripe with MioCommerce — including setting a primary card and choosing between multiple cards when charging a customer.

Note: This article applies only to accounts with an active Stripe integration connected to MioCommerce (MioPay).

When Would You Manage Customer Card Payment Methods?

You may need to manage customer card payments when:

  • A customer has multiple cards on file

  • A card needs to be set as the default (primary) payment method

  • You want to choose a specific card when charging a customer

  • You are charging on-site or through the mobile app

MioCommerce makes this easy while keeping payment data secure through Stripe.

What Does “Primary Payment Method” Mean?

Setting a card as Primary means:

  • This card becomes the default payment method

  • It is automatically selected when charging the customer

  • You don’t need to reselect it each time

Primary cards are visually highlighted, making them easy to identify.

How to Set a Card as the Primary Payment Method

Step 1: Open the Customer Profile

  1. Go to Customers

  2. Open the customer’s profile

  3. Click Payment Options (bottom-right section)

Step 2: Review Saved Card Payments

You’ll see:

  • All previously used card payment methods

  • The card currently set as Primary

  • Primary cards highlighted in green

Step 3: Set a Card as Primary

  1. Click the right arrow on the card you want to update

  2. Select Set as Primary Payment Method

  3. Click Save (green button)

That card will now be used by default for future charges.

How to Choose a Card When Charging a Customer

Even with a primary card set, you can manually choose a different card when charging.

From the Web Dashboard

  1. Go to Customers

  2. Open the customer profile

  3. Click Charge Customer (right-side menu)

  4. Click Choose a Card

  5. Select the desired card from the dropdown

  6. Complete the charge

This is useful when:

  • A customer asks you to use a specific card

  • You are splitting payments

  • A card has recently been updated

Charging a Customer from the Mobile App (On-Site)

If you are at the customer’s location:

  1. Open the booking in the MioCommerce Mobile App

  2. Tap the popup menu button

  3. Select Charge Customer

  4. Choose to:

    • Charge the full amount

    • Charge a partial amount

    • Charge the outstanding balance

All card charges are processed securely through MioPay (Stripe).

Collecting Payment Without a Card on File

If no card payment method is available:

  • You can ask the customer to scan a QR code

  • The customer securely enters a new card payment method

  • You can then complete the charge immediately

If payment is collected through another method:

  • Mark the booking as Collected

  • Select the appropriate Payment Method from the list provided

Key Takeaways

  • You can store and manage multiple customer card payment methods securely using Stripe

  • One card can be set as Primary to simplify future charges

  • You can always choose a different card when charging

  • Payments can be completed from both the web dashboard and mobile app

  • QR codes allow fast, secure card collection when no card is on file
