Tips in MioCommerce

Collect tips securely — manually or automatically, using MioPay (Stripe)

Tips allow you to increase revenue, support your service providers, and offer customers a convenient way to show appreciation.

In MioCommerce, you can collect tips in multiple ways:

Where to Find Received Tips

To view all collected tips:

Navigate to: Payments → Tips

This page displays all tip transactions separately from booking payments.

How Tips Work

Tips are processed securely through MioPay (via Stripe) and are:

  • Charged directly to the customer’s card

  • Processed immediately

  • Tracked within the booking

  • Included in reporting and payments transactions

Ways to Collect Tips in MioCommerce

MioCommerce allows you to collect tips in three different ways, depending on how your business operates.

Option 1: Request a Tip On-Site (Mobile App)

Ask your customer for a tip while you are physically with them.

Ideal when:

  • Collect Tips on site

  • Customers decide after service completion

  • Service providers collect tips directly

Option 2: Pre-Authorized Tips (Automatic)

Automatically add a tip to every booking for a specific customer.

Ideal when:

  • You have recurring clients

  • Customers agree to standard tipping

You Can Choose:

  • Percentage-based (e.g., 15%)

  • Fixed amount (e.g., $10)

  • No automatic tip

The tip:

  • Is charged together with the booking

  • Is processed at the same time as the service charge

  • Can be edited or removed by the customer via their customer portal

Setup location:
Customer Profile → Edit → Tips Section

Option 3: Request a Tip from the Booking

You can also request a tip directly from the booking.

Ideal when: You want to send a tip request after service completion

How It Works

From the MioCommerce platform:

  1. Open the Booking

  2. Click Request Tip in the Actions panel

  3. A secure tip request link is sent to the customer

  4. The customer enters tip details

  5. The tip is processed immediately through Stripe

💡 Tip transactions created this way appear as a separate “Tip” transaction in Payments.

Refunding a Tip

If a tip needs to be reversed, you can refund it from the Tips list view.

To refund a tip:

  1. Go to Payments → Tips

  2. Locate the tip

  3. Click the Refund option

  4. Enter the amount to refund (full or partial)

  5. Click Issue Refund

Tip Refunds follow the same processing process and days as all other Stripe refunds.

How Tips Appear in Payments

Understanding how tips are recorded in the system is important for reconciliation and reporting.

Tips Appear as Separate Transactions

When a booking is charged with a tip, MioCommerce creates:

  • One transaction for the Booking

  • One separate transaction for the Tip

Even if the customer is charged at the same time, the system records them separately. Please refer to the below attached image.

Why?

This ensures:

  • Clear financial reporting

  • Accurate service provider payouts

  • Proper refund handling

  • Transparent accounting

How to Identify a Tip Transaction

You can identify a tip in below places:

A) In the Payment Transactions List

In Payments → Payment Transactions:

  • A blue “Tip” label appears next to the Booking number.

  • The transaction amount reflects only the tip amount.

This helps you instantly distinguish - Booking charges and Tip-only transactions

B) Inside a Specific Booking

Also, under Bookings > Select a Specific Booking > Payment transactions Section

You can also find Tips in the Specific Booking > under cost information

Tip Settings (Account-Level Controls)

Your can configure how tips behave at the account level .

Under: Settings → Tips

You can:

  • Set default tip percentage recommendations customers will see

  • Hide or display the “Request Tip” option in booking actions

  • Choose whether Stripe processing fees reduce service provider payout

  • Apply an optional administrator fee on tips

These settings affect how tips are displayed and distributed across your account.
