In simple terms, we define a job as a service which spans over multiple days and/or requires more than one visit.

For those interested in the technical aspects of the definition:

A Job is a service that when Quoted it cannot be scheduled into one day or less. To determine if the service you are going to quote is a “Job”, divide your “Total Quoted labour time” by your team size for the Job. This result equals the “Duration” of quoted service. If the “Duration” is greater than your daily operating hours (i.e. you cannot fit it into one day), then you should consider this a “Job”.

What happens when you mark a service as a Job?

When you are building out your IQ page, in the General Settings section, you are required to specify whether the service category you will be quoting through the page is a "Job" or otherwise.

By now we are sure you understand what a Job is. So, what really happens when you mark the above question as Yes?

  • First, the system will disable Real time availabilities for all requests coming in from this IQ page so that you do not get booked at odd hours. Which means your customers will be able to accept your quote and make the payment but won't be able to live schedule the booking.

  • Second, these bookings will appear as unscheduled in your bookings page and you will have to manually schedule an dispatch them. Learn more about Scheduling and Dispatching.

Going forwards, as we introduce a Jobs calendar we will be able to automatically schedule and dispatch these bookings for you!

Why should you mark a service as a Job?

If you do not select Yes for "Is this a Job" in the General Settings section and end up quoting a duration for a service which goes beyond your operational hours, your customers will not be able to see any available slots in your calendar(if you chose real time availabilities calendar) and therefore will not be able to go through with the purchase.

However, if you are confident that you have enough available service providers and the service category that your are creating the IQ page for usually has small duration services then you should by all means mark "Is this a Job" as No.
